Something different

Hey guys!

To all my readers, I've been absent these last few months due personal reasons, but I'm back now and I will make the best out of it to entertain, help and motivate you guys. And also the most important part! I'm back to simply express and enjoy myself online. lol!

So this is basically my first post in English and to make it even better I thought about making this one a bit fun and different by teaching you (well, international readers ofcourse!) guys some of the most used words and phrases in Papiamentu.

Papiamentu is a Spanish Creole language with admixtures of Portuguese and Dutch, spoken on the Caribbean islands of Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao. And which, ofcourse!, I'm a proud Yu di Korsou !
But before i start i want to introduce you first to my beautiful island of Curaçao.

Curaçao (Capital=Willemstad) is an island situated in the southern Caribbean Sea, approximately 65 km north of the Venezuelan coast. Curaçao is well known for its tropical weather, our natural St.Anne Bay, beautiful breathtaking beaches, the best local carnival and not to take away that we have some of the best local baseball and soccer players known worldwide :D. Oh, and iguanas! we have lots and lots of iguanas here on the island. How awesome is that?! haha..

So, basically the first thing you learn when you visit our island is Bon Bini, which means welcome.

Bon Bini is the shortest and most common used phrase in papiamentu, which is mostly used as a friendly and charismatic way to greed tourist when they arrive and visit our island.

Also one of the most used, and well known, word in papiamentu is Dushi.

Dushi has different meanings and can be used in many phrases and situations. Depending on what the person wants to say with Dushi it can have meanings like for example: sweetheart, delicious, good, dear, beloved, sexy, babe, sweet and so on. So, just know when someone calls you or tells you something that has to do with "dushi", means this person likes you or has a positive feedback on something towards you.

Those two are the most common and, well not really worldwide-known, but well known phrase and word used in papiamentu, especially with tourists.

Papiamentu is not 'that' difficult of a language to learn, but it sure can be somehow confusing at times. And by 'confusing' i mean the whole grammar thing :P. 

One of the benefits you'll have while learning papiamentu is that it will be easier to learn and understand other languages such as spanish, african and portuguese.

Also if you're a person who can speak and understand such languages, as i just mentioned above, it will be super duper easy for you to learn papiamentu!  

Here follows more words and phrases i took the time to translate for you guys.

Formal ways to greed:

Bondia: Good morning

Bontardi: Good afternoon

Bonochi: Good evening/Good night

Konta/ Kon ta bai/ Konta kubo?: How are you?

Goodbye: Ayo

Pasa un bon dia: Have a nice day

Te otro biaha/bia: Till next time

Informal (you can say normal) ways to greed:

Ei konta: Hey whats up

Kitin: Whats up

Kumbai?: Hi/ Hello

Other greetings:

Hopi tempu sin wak bo: Long time no see

Te akiratu/ aworo: See you later

Masha ten: Long time

Kontentu di konosebo: Nice/ Pleased to meet you

Mi ta bon danki:  I am fine thankyou

I abo mes?: And you/ Yourself ?

Other useful words and phrases:

Despensa (mi): Excuse me

Sori: Sorry

Porfabor: Please

Danki: Thankyou

Yuda (mi): Help (me)

Stop: Stop

Di nada: You're Welcome

Hopi bon!: Very Good!

Un sunchi: A kiss

Un brasa: A hug

Mi amor: My love

Frei: Boyfriend/ Girlfriend

1- Unu /un: One

2- Dos: Two

3- Tres: Three

4- Kuater: Four

5- Sinku: Five

6- Seis: Six

7- Shete: Seven

8- Ocho: Eight

9- Nuebe: Nine

10- Dies: Ten

Ok, so I really enjoyed myself writing this post, thinking on how helpful and different it would be to introduce you to my beautiful island, and to teach you some words and phrases in "papiamentu". Also mostly because writing, for me, is a way to express myself and relax.  

And yes!!! i do expect you to put Curacao on your travel list !!!
